COUNTERPANE FORMS SECURITY ASSOCIATES PROGRAM WITH 12 LEADING SECURITY PRODUCTS VENDORS
Program's Goal is to Deliver Highest Levels Possible of Network Security to Customers. Charter Members Include Cisco Systems, Hewlett-Packard and Check Point.
San Jose, CA, September 11, 2000 - Counterpane Internet Security, Inc., the leader in Managed Security Monitoring (MSM) services, today announced the formation of its Counterpane Security Associates (CSA) program. The program is geared toward delivering the most meaningful information to Counterpane for detecting and stopping unauthorized attacks and intrusions before customers' corporate assets are compromised. Through the program, Counterpane and the 12 charter members have agreed to share technical knowledge and expertise that facilitate and enhance Counterpane's MSM services. This includes information about newly-discovered vulnerabilities, design improvements, audit log formatting, documentation requirements, and product changes.
The program calls for members to work closely to establish tighter levels of integration between their security products and Counterpane's advanced 24x7 monitoring, analysis, and response services.
Security Associates Program Members
Membership in the Security Associates program is by invitation only based on a vendor's solid track record, industry leadership, and ability to provide reliable products that dovetail with the requirements of Counterpane's customers. The program was modeled after the relationship Counterpane developed with Cisco Systems while integrating the Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection System.
"Providing solutions to help customers secure their networks is a priority," says Joel McFarland, Intrusion Detection Product Manager at Cisco. "We think the Counterpane Security Associates Program will be important because it relies upon best-of-breed security solutions, including the Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection System, to deliver valuable e-Business services."
CSA program members listed below are leaders in their respective product categories: anti-virus, firewalls, virtual private networks, intrusion-detection, managed extranet services, as well as routers, workstations, servers, URL filtering and scanning. (Note to Editors: See the Addendum to this release for a brief description of each CSA program member and testimonials from their company executives.)

By joining CSA, we will have even more resources available through this collective industry effort to address the needs of today's demanding security environment."
Benefits to Shared Customers
"This program extends Counterpane's product-neutral, multi-vendor approach," says Bruce Schneier, Counterpane founder and CTO. "It ensures that Counterpane's services offer the broadest, deepest, and most effective product coverage. It also means that Security Associates members and Counterpane can now deliver comprehensive solutions and services (products, applications, system integration, and best practices) to help our mutual customers better protect online assets by alerting them to bona fide security problems and offering them superior remedy guidance."
"We see a growing customer interest in managed security monitoring and services," says Asheem Chandna, Vice-President of Business Development and Product Management for Check Point.
