DEBORAH RIEMAN JOINS COUNTERPANE INTERNET SECURITY'S BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Successful high-technology executive expands company's management expertise

CUPERTINO, Calif., August 6, 2001 - Counterpane Internet Security, Inc., developer and leading provider of Managed Security Monitoring (MSM), today announced Dr. Deborah Rieman has joined the company's board of directors. Rieman's election strengthens the board's ability to provide expertise to Counterpane's executives as they manage their rapidly growing information security service company.

Rieman was previously President & CEO of Check Point Software Technologies. Prior to Check Point, Rieman held various executive and marketing positions with Adobe Systems, Inc., Sun Microsystems, and Xerox Corporation. Dr. Rieman currently manages a private investment fund and serves on the Boards of Directors of Alchemedia Corporation; Altera Corporation; Corning, Incorporated; and Tumbleweed Communications Corporation. Early in her career, Rieman was assistant professor of mathematics at the University of California at Santa Cruz. She holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from Columbia University.
