SECURITY PRODUCT VENDORS PARTNER WITH
COUNTERPANE INTERNET SECURITY
Partners leverage Counterpane's Managed Security Monitoring service to radically improve secure e-business solutions
San Jose, CA, APRIL 5, 2000 -- Counterpane Internet Security, Inc. today announced that several companies plan to support and partner with them in delivering Managed Security Monitoring services. This new category of security service combines network security countermeasures with around-the-clock monitoring, analysis and response by expert security analysts. Counterpane's unique monitoring and response service addresses the mission-critical status of network security for organizations of all types, and for e-commerce in particular.
Counterpane has developed vital alliances with security service and network assessment providers including Exodus Communications, Foundstone, Inc., Open Source Group, Inc., PricewaterhouseCoopers, Securify, Security Design International, Inc., and SecurityFocus.com.
"Relationships with these premier organizations have allowed us to concentrate on what we do best," says Counterpane President and CEO Tom Rowley. " And that is monitoring, response, and security intelligence."
The San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC)-a nationally recognized leader in network security - is collaborating with Counterpane and will provide access to its large archives of security-related information. This includes nearly a terabyte of system logs, collections of "hacker tools," and other data collected during SDSC's intrusion analysis efforts over the past decade. Counterpane will use this data for research and analysis and for creation of intrusion detection and other security tools that will then be "field-tested" within SDSC's large networks.
In additional to establishing strategic alliances with major service providers, Counterpane has developed key partnerships with security product vendors. Axent Technologies, Inc., Network Flight Recorder, Secure Computing, and Tripwire are among the vendors who will offer Counterpane's Managed Security Monitoring with their products to provide customers with a level of security that will enable them to fully endorse the safety of e-business and other network activity that require absolute security.
"There are some excellent security products on the market, but simply installing them isn't enough," says Bruce Schneier, Counterpane Founder and CTO. "They need to be continuously monitored by experts who can interpret and respond to the alerts they give."
Vendors of high-quality products such as firewalls, authentication mechanisms, and encryption devices can now partner with Counterpane's team of world-class security experts to offer their customers maximized the effectiveness of their installed security products, and provides the strongest defense against internal and external unauthorized access and use.
Counterpane's comprehensive services are delivered through a network of technically sophisticated Secure Operations Centers staffed by teams of security analysts. To deliver this level of expertise and resources, vendors of security products would have to invest incredible resources outside of their core business. Now they can focus on bringing quality products to market, knowing Counterpane's experts will defend against even the most intelligent attacks. And even their small and medium-sized customers will enjoy a level of expertise and protection that would otherwise be out of reach. Counterpane's mission-critical services can be tailored to customer-specific environments and needs, making a partnership with them attractive to diverse network security product and service providers.
Counterpane's management and technology teams bring impressive credentials in addition to a great depth and variety of experience to their working partnerships. The Company's first two Secure Operations Centers are located in Silicon Valley and the Washington, D.C. area. Additional centers will be coming on-line later this year, including one in Western Europe. Schneier's well-established company Counterpane Systems has become the research division of Counterpane Internet Security. Renamed Counterpane Labs, this group will play a key role in providing ongoing research and critical resources to Counterpane Internet Security and its partners, as well as to the information security community at large.
Counterpane Internet Security, Inc. was established in 1999 by security technologist and author Bruce Schneier and entrepreneurial expert Tom Rowley to address the critical need for increased levels of security services. Centered around a network of sophisticated Secure Operations Centers, staffed by expert security analysts, the Company provides 24x7 monitoring, as well as penetration prevention, detection, and response. Counterpane's Managed Security Monitoring services enable e-business to be conducted safely.
