BT Counterpane - Managed Security Services search

“We could not possibly replicate Counterpane’s service ourselves. We couldn’t staff it. And even if we could, we would not get the benefits of Counterpane’s global view. They watch security incidents throughout the globe, and we benefit from that.”

COUNTERPANE INTERNET SECURITY SIGNS NETCERTAINTY AND OPENREACH FOR ITS MANAGED SECURITY MONITORING SERVICE

Web development tool and service companies rely on Counterpane

San Jose, Calif., February 12, 2001 - Counterpane Internet Security, Inc. today announced that NetCertainty and OpenReach have signed service agreements for Counterpane to provide its Managed Security Monitoring (MSM) service. Counterpane's MSM service was launched in April 2000 and provides 24/7 monitoring of networks for unauthorized access, customer response and resolution, and intelligence data gathering and analysis. These new customers expand Counterpane's reach to the high-growth area of web development tools and services.

"We are pleased to work with NetCertainty and OpenReach," says Tom Rowley, Counterpane President and CEO. "They play an important role in the Internet economy by providing web development tools and unique VPN services that enable their customers to build their own secure Internet infrastructures to suit their unique business requirements. Our MSM service complements NetCertainty's and OpenReach's solutions, as well as represents an important competitive differentiator for both organizations."

"NetCertainty's digital identity hosting service enables businesses and individuals to authorize legally-binding transactions over the Internet without traditional handwritten signatures and proof of identity," according to Timothy Gelman, CEO of NetCertainty Inc. "Essentially, our technology lets organizations trust the integrity of their Internet transactions with partners, customers, and employees. With Counterpane's MSM service, we are adding another layer of security and protection that is a critical success factor in driving transactional security for Internet-based trade."

"OpenReach VPN Services enable any sized business to use the Internet for secure, private communication," stated Jonathan Harwood, Executive Vice President, Network Operations, OpenReach, Inc. "Counterpane's services ensure that the entire OpenReach network, including the network operations center, data centers, the services infrastructure, and customer data is secure against hackers and unauthorized access. Having Counterpane's team of security experts monitor the management platform for our clients' secure office-to-office connections is a value-add that most customers could not easily or affordably replicate."

Internet Business Model

"According to IDC, the worldwide market for security services will increase from $5.5 billion in 1999 to $17.2 billion in 2004. The market opportunity for Counterpane's MSM service is large and growing," says Tom Rowley. Businesses with significant Internet commerce activities are concerned about security and integrity of customer data. We see significant demand for our services from at least five distinct customer categories from within the Internet business community. Our new customers, NetCertainty and OpenReach, for example, are leaders in what we call the 'Technology Platform Supplier' segment," notes Rowley. "Our market development activities, since day one, have focused on providing monitoring services to these high-growth customer segments."
